i attended the CSA open house that was held here in park city last night. first of all, i was *overjoyed* when i pulled into the parking lot and could barely find a spot! the miners hospital isn’t exactly a hot spot at 7:00 in the evening, so i knew that had to be a good sign. the joint was packed with interested community members. i visited most of the booths; although only got the opportunity to speak firsthand to a few of the farmers. only because i could barely squeeze in to get a pamphlet at most booths! i was dying to try the cheese from snowy mountain sheep creamery but there was no chance for us. it was definitely one of the most sought after tables. (by the by, their timpanogos peak blue cheese just took 1st place in the surface ripened sheep’s milk cheese category at the 2011 united states championship cheese contest in wisconsin. yeah, utah.) you definitely need to do some digging when searching for the right csa for you. many offer full and half shares, some offer “field” shares, (which is kind of like a “diet full share” or a “full share light”) others offer a “choose your own share” where you can pick and choose which items you want/don’t want….it’s all about finding what’s good for you and your family. it’s just me and my significant other sharing the weekly bounty (look mom, i’m living in sin!) so i went with a farm that offers an affordable half share out of west point, utah. absolutely squeeing* with excitement.
i encourage each of you to take a look at the list of available farms that we posted a few days ago and see if one might work for you. i also know that a couple of farms were offering early season discounts, so don’t delay-sign up today.**
