As we’ve indicated, body lotion, especially if you use a lot of it, is the most important product to switch to a less toxic alternative. Dr. Bronner products are always a safe bet on the Cosmetics Database ranking from 1-2 (low hazard). They are an environmentally conscious company that goes the extra mile to get organic certification on most products. This review is for Dr. Bronner’s Magic Organic Orange Lavendar Body Lotion.
Ingredients: Aqua, Organic Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Organic Ethanol, Organic Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Organic Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil, Organic Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Organic Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Organic, Quillaja Saponaria Extract, Xanthan Gum, Tocopherol
Cosmetics Database Score: 2 (low hazard)
Potentially Hazardous Ingredients: Ethanol, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Tocopherol
Pros: this lotion smells amazing and absorbs very quickly, though it’s greasy at first. It may work better on medium to oily skin. It’s certified organic by the USDA.
Cons: it didn’t work well on my dry skin. In fact, made it seem even more dry after use which may be attributed to the high ethanol content. It only comes in small containers. There are a few suspect ingredients, so it’s not 100% safe on the cosmetics database.
Notes: This is ranked as low hazard on the Cosmetics Database, but I wouldn’t recommend it for dry or sensitive skin.
Overall Score (0 being worst, 10 being best): 3 (for dry skin)
