Green Product Review: Hugo Naturals Lemon Verbena Shower Gel

I love Hugo Naturals products.  They work well, smell great and are consistently ranked a 3 or below on the cosmetics database.  They don’t contain parabens, sls, fragrance likely to contain phthalates, and are otherwise  free of the Dirty Half Dozen.  When I don’t have time to read the ingredients, my default products are Hugo Naturals.  This is not to be confused with Hugo, by Hugo Boss which has products ranking up to 10 on the cosmetics database.  This is my review for Hugo Naturals Lemon Verbena and Bergamot Shower Gel.

Cosmetics Database Score:  3 (this isn’t scored on the CD, but there is a product with the almost identical ingredients Hugo Naturals Lemon Verbena Liquid Soap that ranks a 3)

Potentially Hazardous Ingredients:  Lippia Citriodora Flower Extract, Citric Acid, Tocopherol, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia

Pros:  It smells great, is reasonably priced, foams up nicely, is pretty safe, and doesn’t dry your skin.

Cons:  There are a lot of ingredients and I’m not convinced we understand the effects of all of them.

Notes: According to the Hugo Naturals website, Lemon Verbena essential oil is said to be a powerful anti-inflammatory, fever reducer and sedative.

Overall Score (0 being worst, 10 being best): 9
